How Much Does a 3-Day Merzouga Desert Tour Cost?

The two prices, and why they are so far apart

A three-day Merzouga tour has two honest prices depending on how you travel:

• Shared, from Marrakech: €120 per person. A seat in a minibus, fixed departure

days, fixed itinerary, twelve to sixteen people. This is our

shared 3-day Merzouga tour.

• Private, from Agadir: €366 per person for two, €225 at four, €170 at six.

Your own vehicle and driver, your own timings. This is our

3-day Merzouga tour from Agadir.

Both cover the same landscape. The gap is not luxury - it is arithmetic.

Why the gap closes as your group grows

A shared tour divides one vehicle, one driver and one fuel bill across every seat sold. A

private tour divides the same fixed costs across your group only. So:

At six people, a private tour costs €50 a head more than a minibus seat and you get your

own vehicle, your own departure time and no waiting at four hotel pickups. That is a very

different decision from the one the headline solo price suggests.

What the price actually covers

On both versions: transport for the full loop, a night in the Dades or Todra area, a night

at a desert camp in Erg Chebbi, the camel ride out to camp, dinner and breakfast at the

camp, and the return drive.

Not included, and openly so: lunches on the road (70-120 MAD each), drinks, tips, and

any en-suite tent upgrade. Nearly every operator in Morocco excludes road lunches; be

suspicious of one that claims otherwise at a similar price, because it is usually in there

somewhere.

The drive is the real cost

Marrakech to Merzouga is roughly 560 km each way over the Tizi n'Tichka pass. That is why

this is a three-day trip and not a two-day one, and why the price cannot fall much further

without cutting something real - usually the desert night, replaced with a hotel in

Erfoud, or the camp itself, downgraded to a roadside auberge.

If you have only two days, do not compress this route. Take

Zagora instead, which is a genuine two-day

distance, or the Merzouga stargazing tour if

the night sky is the thing you actually want.

Which to book

Two people on a budget: take the shared tour and accept the fixed schedule. Four or more,

or anyone travelling with children or on a tight flight time: the private tour is worth

what it costs, and at six the difference is small.
