How Much Does an Agafay Desert Evening Cost?

What an Agafay evening costs

€30 per person for our

shared Agafay dinner, camel ride and fire show.

That is the least expensive desert experience we run, and it happens between late afternoon

and bedtime.

The private sunset and dinner trip is **€94 per person

for two**, €67 at four and €56 at six.

Be clear about what Agafay is

Agafay is a stony desert, not a sand one. It is hammada - hard pale ground, low rolling

hills, almost no plants - about 30 km from Marrakech with the Atlas on the skyline behind

it. At golden hour it is genuinely beautiful and it photographs like somewhere far more

remote than it is.

What it does not have is dunes. Not small ones, not any. Every tall apricot dune you have

seen in a Morocco photograph is Erg Chebbi at

Merzouga or Erg Chegaga, both a long day's

drive south.

We say this plainly because it is the single most common disappointment in Marrakech

day-tripping, and it is entirely avoidable by knowing in advance.

Who Agafay is right for

• One night in Marrakech and no time for the Sahara. This is the honest substitute.
• Travelling with small children. An hour each way instead of ten.
• You want dinner under stars without a two-day commitment.

Who it is wrong for: anyone already booked on a

Zagora or Merzouga trip. You will see all of this

and a great deal more, and the evening becomes a duplicate.

The extras

Dinner and the camel ride are in the price. Extra drinks are not, and tips for the camp

crew run to 30-50 MAD from the group. Bring a layer - the temperature drops hard once the

sun is down, even in summer, because there is nothing out there to hold the heat.
