Overview

One journey the length of the country, starting where most people land and finishing where most people want to be. You cross from the Atlantic to the Sahara and back into the High Atlas, taking in three imperial cities, the best-preserved Roman site in Morocco, a full guided day inside the Fes medina, a night in the Erg Chebbi dunes, and the gorge road through Todra and Dades. Day-by-Day Itinerary

Collection from your Casablanca hotel or the airport. North along the coast to Rabat for the Hassan Tower and the Kasbah of the Udayas above the river mouth. Inland to Volubilis, the Roman city whose floor mosaics are still in place under the open sky, then Meknes for Bab Mansour and Moulay Ismail's imperial granaries. Arrive Fes in the evening; night in a riad inside the medina.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tour start in Casablanca and finish in Marrakech?
Yes. We collect you in Casablanca — your hotel or the airport, whichever suits — and the tour ends in Marrakech on day five. It is designed as a one-way journey across the country rather than a loop, which is what lets you see the north, the Sahara and the High Atlas without covering the same road twice.
Can you take us back to Casablanca at the end?
Yes, as an extra rather than as part of the tour. It is about 270 km of motorway from Marrakech, roughly three hours, and we will quote it with your booking. Many travellers instead fly out of Marrakech or take the train, which runs to Casablanca in around three hours and is comfortable and inexpensive.
How long are the driving days?
Day one is about six hours spread across three stops, day two has no driving at all, day three is the longest at around seven and a half hours broken by Ifrane and the Ziz valley, day four is about four and a half, and day five about five and a half. The full-day stop in Fes sits deliberately between the two longest days.
Why do we need a local guide in Fes?
Because Fes el-Bali has roughly nine thousand lanes, no vehicles, and no logic that reveals itself in an afternoon. A licensed Fes guide is included for the full day: they get you into the madrasas and the tanneries, explain what you are looking at, and end the constant negotiation that a visitor walking alone attracts. It is the single biggest difference between a good day in Fes and a frustrating one.
What is the desert camp like?
You reach it by camel at sunset, and it is a private tent for your group with dinner, breakfast and Berber music at the fire. Bathroom arrangements vary by camp tier and we will tell you exactly which you are getting before you book. Is this better than starting in Marrakech?
