The road from Marrakech to Fes is one of the most spectacular drives in Africa. Cross the High Atlas via Tizi n'Tichka, stop at the UNESCO Ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, wind through the Middle Atlas cedar forests where wild Barbary macaques roam, and arrive in Fes el-Bali — the world's largest living medieval city.
Depart at 7:30 am. Ascend the Atlas via Tizi n'Tichka. Visit Aït Ben Haddou. Continue through the Ziz Valley to Midelt for the night.
