The classic Marrakech desert circuit, adapted so it works with children. The distances are the same — over the Atlas to Aït Ben Haddou, through the gorge country to the Erg Chebbi dunes and back — but the driving is broken into shorter, comfortable stages with proper stops, hotel nights with pools, and a desert camp built for families rather than a spartan bivouac. Kids get camel rides, a Game-of-Thrones film set to explore, sandboarding on the dunes, and a night under a sky full of stars. Everything moves in an air-conditioned vehicle, so there is no walking demand — just a big, memorable adventure the whole family can share.
Cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass over the High Atlas with photo stops, then explore the earthen kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou — a favourite with kids who recognise it from films. Continue to a hotel in the Dades Valley for the night, with a pool to cool off in. Dinner and overnight.
This is the standard Marrakech–Erg Chebbi circuit with the driving restructured so it works with children. The route is the same one everyone runs: over the Atlas to Aït Ben Haddou and the Dades on day one, through the Dades and Todra gorges to the dunes on day two, back via Ouarzazate on days three and four. What changes is the shape of the days — roughly 5 hours driving on day one, then 4, 4 and 4, broken into shorter stages with proper stops rather than two long hauls.
The single most useful thing to know is that the desert is genuinely far from Marrakech. Erg Chebbi is around 560 km each way and no itinerary can shorten that. Four days is what makes it comfortable: three nights, three different beds, and a dune night that is not bracketed by two eight-hour drives. The 2-day versions of this trip do the same distance in half the time, which is exactly the thing that makes children miserable.
Nights are a hotel in the Dades with dinner and breakfast, the family desert camp at Erg Chebbi with dinner and breakfast, and a hotel in Ouarzazate with breakfast. The camp is set up for families rather than run as a spartan bivouac — camel rides at sunset and sunrise, sandboarding on the dunes, and space for children to be children. Aït Ben Haddou on the way out is the Game of Thrones and Gladiator kasbah, which tends to land well with older kids.
The ladder starts at two people because this trip is not sold solo: €526 each for two, €399 for three, €346 for four, €314 for five, €270 for six, €252 for seven, €245 at ten and €229 at fourteen. Included are the air-conditioned vehicle throughout, a bilingual English/French driver-guide, all three nights as described, both camel rides and all transfers and access fees.
Lunches are not included — budget roughly €12–15 a meal — and the Atlas Film Studios ticket is optional at about €7. Travel insurance and tips are separate. Group size is 2–12 and the trip is private, which on a family holiday mostly means you can stop when someone needs to stop.
