Overview

The classic Marrakech desert circuit, adapted so it works with children. The distances are the same — over the Atlas to Aït Ben Haddou, through the gorge country to the Erg Chebbi dunes and back — but the driving is broken into shorter, comfortable stages with proper stops, hotel nights with pools, and a desert camp built for families rather than a spartan bivouac. Kids get camel rides, a Game-of-Thrones film set to explore, sandboarding on the dunes, and a night under a sky full of stars. Everything moves in an air-conditioned vehicle, so there is no walking demand — just a big, memorable adventure the whole family can share.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass over the High Atlas with photo stops, then explore the earthen kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou — a favourite with kids who recognise it from films. Continue to a hotel in the Dades Valley for the night, with a pool to cool off in. Dinner and overnight.

Frequently asked questions

Is this desert tour suitable for young children?
Yes. There is no walking demand — everything moves in an air-conditioned vehicle, and the stops (kasbah, gorge, dunes) are short and easy. The driving is real, though, so it suits children who travel reasonably well in a car; the stages are deliberately broken up with frequent stops to help.
What makes the desert camp family-friendly?
The camp used on this trip has proper beds, private or shared bathroom tents, and dinner served together rather than a bare bivouac. The camel rides are short and led on foot, and there is space around the fire for children in the evening.
How long is each day in the car?
The longest driving days are the first and the last, crossing the Atlas — several hours each, but broken by the kasbah, gorges and photo stops rather than done in one push. The middle days are shorter, with more time actually in the desert.
What isn't included?
Lunches (budget roughly €12–15 per meal), the optional Atlas Film Studios ticket (~€7), personal travel insurance, and tips. Everything else — transport, three nights' accommodation with the meals listed, camel rides and access fees — is covered.
What ages does this work for?
It is graded easy and families book it across a wide age range. The camel ride is short and optional, and the walking is minimal. The limiting factor is the driving — a child who struggles with several hours in a car will find day one long, which is exactly why this is the four-day version rather than the three.
Are there activities for children at the camp?
The dunes themselves do most of the work — sandboarding and running up and down them occupies most children until dinner. Evenings are drumming and a fire rather than anything scheduled.
Can you cater for fussy eaters and dietary needs?
Yes. Tagine and couscous are the staples, and plainer options are always available. Tell us about allergies or dietary requirements when you book so the camp knows before you arrive.
Are there family rooms, or do we split up?
Tents and rooms are allocated to keep families together — you will not be separated across the camp. Tell us the ages and group make-up when booking and we will arrange it.

Why book with us directly

Booking platforms charge operators 25–40% commission. Booking direct means the money stays with the family and the guides who walk with you — and you deal with the people running the trek, not a call centre.
