Overview

Essaouira is a fortified port on the Atlantic, three hours west of Marrakech: whitewashed and blue, walkable, and far cooler than the city in summer. The shared day trip stops at an argan cooperative on the way, then leaves you several free hours in the UNESCO medina, on the ramparts and at the fishing harbour before the drive back.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Depart Marrakech around 8:00 am, stopping at an argan cooperative en route. Arrive Essaouira late morning with free time for the medina, ramparts, harbour and lunch. Depart mid-afternoon, back in Marrakech early evening.

How long do we actually get in Essaouira?
Roughly four to five hours, which is enough for the medina, the ramparts, the harbour and a leisurely lunch. It is not enough to add the beach at any length — for that, stay overnight.
Is a guide included in the medina?
No. You have free time to explore on your own, which most people prefer in a town this walkable. Transport and the argan stop are included.
Is the argan stop a sales pitch?
It is a working women's cooperative where you can watch the pressing and buy if you want to. Nobody obliges you to.
