From Agadir, the route to Erg Chegaga is the most natural in Morocco. Head south through the Anti-Atlas foothills via Tata and Foum Zguid, entering the edge of the Sahara from the west — a very different approach than the standard Marrakech route. Erg Chegaga is the Sahara for those who want fewer tourists, larger dunes in total, and a more genuine feeling of wilderness. The 4x4 crossing from M'Hamid is part of the adventure. Two nights deep in the desert, away from everything.
Early pick-up from Agadir at 6:30 am. Drive south through the Anti-Atlas foothills — the oldest mountain range in Morocco, stranger and more ancient-looking than the High Atlas. Pass through the oasis town of Tata and continue to Foum Zguid or M'Hamid, the last settlements before Erg Chegaga. Dinner and overnight.
