Family High Atlas from Marrakech — 4-Day Gentle Trek

Trekking with children works when the days are short and there is something to look at, and this itinerary is built to that rule rather than adapted to it afterwards. Day one is a 1.5-hour drive to Imlil and a 2–3 hour walk to the first village. Day two is 4 hours around valley waterfalls. Day three crosses to the Ourika side in 4–5 hours. Day four is a 3-hour descent and the drive back. Half-days, not route marches.

The ground is deliberately easy — lower Imlil and Ourika, river crossings, walnut groves and waterfalls instead of high passes. Mules carry all the luggage, and they can carry a tired child too, which is the detail that turns a difficult afternoon into a non-event. Nobody is carrying a pack and nobody is being hurried.

Nights are village guesthouses with Berber families over three nights, with all meals included. Bread baking and mint tea are part of the evenings rather than a staged demonstration, and for most families that turns out to be what the children remember rather than the walking.

This trip has a three-person minimum, so the ladder opens there: €276 per person for three, €257 for four, €241 for five and €225 at six, up to a group of fourteen. Included are a licensed mountain guide experienced with families, all three guesthouse nights, every meal, the mules, and return transfer from Marrakech. Travel insurance is recommended, personal hiking gear is yours, and tips for the guide and muleteers are separate.

On ages: the constraint is walking a few hours on uneven ground, not distance or altitude, so school-age children generally do well and younger ones manage with the mules on hand.
