Overview

At 110 metres, the Ouzoud Falls are the highest waterfalls in North Africa. The mist-soaked gorge is home to troops of wild Barbary macaques, rainbow-framed pools at the base, and traditional mill houses still grinding argan. A two-hour drive from Marrakech and completely worth it.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Depart Marrakech at 7:30 am. Arrive Ouzoud by 9:30 am. Guided walk to the falls, gorge trail, boat ride, macaque spotting. Free time for lunch. Return to Marrakech by 6:00 pm.

How much walking is involved at Ouzoud?
Not much — it is an easy day. The main effort is the walk down into the gorge to the base of the 110 m falls and back up, which most people manage at their own pace.
Is lunch included?
No. Lunch is not included, though there are restaurants overlooking the falls. The price covers round-trip transport from Marrakech, a certified guide, the boat ride at the falls, and mineral water.
Will we see the wild monkeys?
Ouzoud has a resident colony of wild Barbary macaques around the upper falls, and sightings are common, though as wild animals they are never guaranteed.
How big is the group?
Between 2 and 15 people on a shared day trip.
Is there a boat ride at Ouzoud Falls?
Yes, and it is included in the price. Small wooden boats run across the pool at the foot of the cascades and take you close enough to feel the spray — it is short, it is the best view of the falls from below, and it is the moment most people photograph. You reach it on the gorge trail that descends from the top.
