What Does a 4-Day Toubkal Trek Cost? (2026 Breakdown)

Par MET Team1 August 20267 min de lecture

The 4-day Toubkal trek costs €380 with us and 4,200–6,000 MAD to organise yourself. Here is the itemised difference, and why the extra two days cost far less than double the two-day trip.

The short answer

Two people organising a 4-day Toubkal trek themselves typically spend

4,200–6,000 MAD in total (about £330–475 / €390–560 for the pair). Our packaged

4-day trek is €380 per person.

The itemised bill

Four days changes which costs scale and which do not. Rates are typical 2026 figures

and vary with season and group size.

Over four days: roughly 2,000–3,200 MAD for the guide, 1,000–1,200 for the mule,

900–1,050 for three refuge nights, and the same 600–1,000 transfer you would pay on a

two-day trip.

Why four days is not twice two days

This surprises people, so it is worth stating plainly. Our 2-day is €210 and our 4-day

is €380 — €170 more, not €210 more.

The reason is that the transfer from Marrakech, the mule engagement and the fixed

overhead of running the trip are identical whether you walk for two days or four. Only

the daily guide rate, the refuge nights and the meals actually scale.

The same logic works in your favour if you self-organise: the marginal cost of the

third and fourth day is lower than the average cost of the first two.

What the extra two days actually buy

Not scenery — both routes summit the same mountain. What they buy is **altitude

acclimatisation**, and that is the single largest factor in whether you reach the top.

The 2-day route takes you from Marrakech at 450 m to 4,167 m in about thirty hours.

Fit walkers do it, and plenty summit that way. But headaches, nausea and the slow grind

of a body that has not adjusted are the most common reasons a Toubkal attempt turns

around short of the summit.

The 4-day walks in through the valley, sleeps lower before going higher, and gives your

body two extra nights to adapt. If you have travelled a long way for this mountain, that

is where the money is best spent.

Group size is the biggest lever

The guide fee, the mule and the vehicle are per-trip costs. The refuge beds and meals

are per-person. So the majority of the bill divides by the size of your group.

Four friends walking together pay meaningfully less per head than a couple. If you are

choosing between negotiating the guide's day rate and finding two more walkers, the

second saves far more.

What is not included

  • Travel insurance — mandatory on our trips. Confirm it covers trekking above 4,000 m.
  • Personal equipment — see what to pack for a High Atlas trek.
  • Winter kit — crampons and ice axe, 100–150 MAD/day in Imlil, November to March. See Toubkal in winter.
  • Tips — 10–15% of trip cost, split between guide and muleteer, cash in dirhams.

Going further than the summit

If you have four days available and the summit is not the only goal, the

6-day Toubkal circuit via Ifni Lake covers

considerably more of the massif for €620 — again, less than proportionally more, for the

same per-trip reason.

The short version

Self-organising costs a pair roughly 4,200–6,000 MAD and a day of arranging things in

Imlil. Our package is €380 per person with the guide, three refuge nights, all meals,

the mule, park fees and both transfers included.

The four-day is the version we recommend to most people, not because it costs more, but

because acclimatisation is what gets you to the top.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 4-day Toubkal trek cost?
Self-organised, two people typically spend 4,200–6,000 MAD in total (about £330–475 / €390–560 for the pair) across four days of guide fees, three refuge nights with half board, the mule, park fees and the Marrakech transfer. Our [4-day Toubkal trek](/en/tours/toubkal-summit-trek-4day) is €380 per person with all of it included.
Why is the 4-day not double the price of the 2-day?
Because the largest costs are charged per trip rather than per day. The Marrakech transfer, the mule hire and a share of the guide's engagement are the same whether you walk for two days or four. Only the daily guide rate, the refuge nights and the meals scale with duration — which is why €210 becomes €380 rather than €420.
Is the 4-day Toubkal trek worth the extra cost?
For most people, yes. Altitude is the most common reason a Toubkal attempt fails, and the 4-day itinerary walks in gradually with time to acclimatise before the summit push. The 2-day goes from 450 m to 4,167 m in roughly thirty hours. The extra €170 buys a materially higher chance of standing on the summit.
What extra costs should I budget for on a 4-day trek?
Travel insurance covering trekking to altitude, personal equipment, and tips of 10–15% split between the guide and muleteer. Between November and March add crampons and ice axe rental at roughly 100–150 MAD per day. Everything else — refuges, all meals, mule, park fees and transfers — is included in our package.
