How Group Size Changes Your Tour Price in Morocco (2026)

The short answer

On a private tour in Morocco the price per person falls sharply as the group

grows — because you are hiring a vehicle and a driver, not buying seats. On a

shared tour it does not fall at all, because there is nothing to divide.

Here is what that looks like on our 3-day Sahara tour:

Notice the shape. The drop from one to two is 45%. The drop from five to six is

12%. That curve is not a marketing decision — it is arithmetic, and it is worth

understanding before you compare quotes.

Why the first passenger carries the whole vehicle

A private 3-day desert tour has two kinds of cost.

Fixed costs do not change with headcount:

• The 4x4 and its fuel, for roughly 1,100 km
• The driver-guide’s three days
• Road tolls and parking

Per-head costs scale with the number of people:

• Bed and dinner in the Dades gorge guesthouse
• The desert camp tent and its meals
• The camel out to the dunes

On a short trip the fixed block is the larger of the two. A solo traveller pays all

of it alone. A second traveller pays none of it — they add only their own bed,

their own dinner and their own camel. That is the entire explanation for the 45%

cliff, and every honest operator’s table has the same shape.

What this means when you compare operators

Most Moroccan operators publish a solo price and then a "from" price, and the two

are calculated at different group sizes. A €339 headline is very often the

four-person rate. Ours at four people is €295.

So when you compare two quotes, check three things:

1. How many people is the price quoted for? This is the single most common

source of confusion, and the reason two quotes can look 50% apart while

describing the same trip.

2. Is it private or shared? A €69 shared seat and a €690 solo private tour are

not competing products, whatever the search results suggest.

3. What is excluded? Lunches and tips sit outside the price almost everywhere,

including here.

The same curve on a trek, but much flatter

Treks discount less steeply, because the fixed block is smaller — there is a

transfer to Imlil and back, but no vehicle running for three days.

Solo to six is a 56% saving on the Toubkal trek against 76% on the desert

tour. The same principle, a smaller magnitude — because a mountain

guide’s fee is mostly a per-day cost that does not care how many people are

walking behind him, so there is less fixed cost to spread than a 1,100 km vehicle

hire carries.

Day tours drop once, then stop

A Marrakech medina cultural tour is

€73 solo, €41 each for two and €31 at six.

The shape is different from the desert tour. Almost the whole saving arrives with

the second person, and the next four barely change anything. What is being divided

is a licensed guide’s afternoon — one cost, split once. There is no vehicle, no

fuel and no accommodation to keep spreading, which is why the curve flattens

immediately instead of falling all the way to six.

Shared seats elsewhere have no group pricing at all

Worth knowing when you compare operators. A shared minibus seat is priced per

head and never moves: six people pay six times one seat, because the vehicle

departs whether you book one place or six. There is no tier, no bracket and

nothing to negotiate.

Every tour we run is private, so each of ours carries a published tier table

person falls as the group grows, which a shared seat cannot do. That is the

trade: a seat on someone else's minibus is cheaper for one or two, and a

private vehicle on your own schedule closes the gap fast from three or four

people up.

Where the savings stop

Past six people the per-person price flattens. Past eight it moves very little. At

that size a second vehicle or a larger minibus enters the picture, and the fixed

cost you spent the first six people spreading out begins to duplicate.

choosing a group size to book at, everything meaningful happens between one and six.

How to use this

• Travelling solo? The shared tour is the honest recommendation — or find one

other traveller and roughly halve your cost.

• A couple? You are already past the steepest part of the curve. Adding two

friends saves each of you around a quarter, not another half.

• A family of four? You are close to the efficient point on every private tour

we run.

• Six or more? You are at the floor. Book the private tour and enjoy having the

vehicle to yourselves.
