Overview

This is the High Atlas without the summit fixation: three days walking valley to valley through the heart of Berber country. From Imlil you cross into the Azzaden, then traverse eastward over grazing passes toward the Ourika watershed, sleeping each night in a different village guesthouse. The walking is steady rather than severe — high passes but no scree slogs or altitude beyond about 2,700 m — and the point is the villages, the terraced fields, the shepherds' azibs and the changing valleys rather than a single high point. A strong three-day introduction to trekking in Morocco.

Frequently asked questions

Is this trek suitable as a first multi-day hike?
Yes — it is graded moderate and designed as a solid introduction to trekking in Morocco. There is no summit or technical ground; the days are 4–6 hours over passes up to about 2,700 m. If you walk regularly you will be fine.
What is the accommodation like?
Two nights in village guesthouses, each hosted by a local family, with all meals included. These are simple homes — shared bathrooms, mattresses on floor platforms or basic beds — rather than hotels, which is the point of the trek.
Why is there no summit on this trek?
It is built around the valleys and villages rather than a peak. That keeps the altitude moderate and the days steady, so it works for walkers who want real High Atlas trekking without the demands of a Toubkal summit attempt.
Do mules carry the luggage?
Yes. A mule carries the group's main luggage between guesthouses, so you walk with a daypack. Personal trekking gear is your own to bring.
