This is the great walk of the High Atlas — a genuine range traverse rather than a single-peak trip. Starting in the Aït Bougmez valley, the 'Happy Valley' of terraced fields and earthen villages, you cross the M'Goun massif and stand on its 4,068 m summit, then spend a week and a half moving west through gorges, high plateaus, shepherds' pastures and villages that see almost no outside visitors — including Magdaz, which UNESCO has called Morocco's most beautiful village. The traverse finishes in the Toubkal massif with a summit of Jbel Toubkal (4,167 m), the highest point in North Africa, before descending to Imlil. Fifteen days of remote, high, physically demanding trekking with full mule support — the most serious trip we run, and the finest.
Drive over the High Atlas via Aït M'hamed into the Aït Bougmez 'Happy Valley'. Settle in, meet the crew, and take a short acclimatisation walk among the terraced fields. Overnight in a village gîte.
