Day-by-Day Itinerary

Transfer from Marrakech to Imlil (1h30), the trailhead village for Toubkal. Settle in, meet your guide, and take a short acclimatisation walk through the terraced Berber fields. Welcome dinner.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 4-day trek better than the 2-day for a first Toubkal attempt?
For most people, yes. The extra days are spent acclimatising rather than covering more ground, and altitude — not fitness — is the usual reason people struggle near the summit. If you have never been near 4,000 metres, this is the version to book.
What is the accommodation like on this trek?
A mix of village guesthouse and the Toubkal Refuge at 3,207 metres. The refuge is a working mountain hut: shared dormitory rooms, bunks with mattresses and blankets, communal meals and cold nights. Bring a sleeping bag liner, head torch and earplugs.
Do I need to carry my own bag?
Only a daypack with water, layers and a camera. Mules carry the main baggage between stops, which is what makes consecutive big walking days manageable for people who have not trekked at altitude before.
What time does summit day start?
Before dawn. The summit push from the refuge takes around three hours, and an early start means reaching the top for sunrise and getting down before the afternoon weather builds. It is the coldest part of the day, so the warm layer you have been carrying finally earns its place.
